'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Sky Blue Season: December

The month started in the worst possible fashion for Coventry City with a truly dismal defeat away to Scunthorpe United, captured in all its horror by the Sky cameras.

Chris Coleman's touchline demeanour portrayed a man under pressure and despite an improved display three days later, Newcastle eased past the Sky Blues at the Ricoh Arena to crank up the tension.

That tension (prior to the final home game of the season), reached its peak after 71 minutes of the following fixture, another home clash but this time against struggling Peterborough.

Defensive errors had seen the Posh fight back from two first-half Freddy Eastwood goals but just as the grumblings of discontent began to be heard, Eastwood completed his hat-trick and bought Coleman some time.

The manager's belief that his squad was stronger than a year ago began to be borne out and the year ended on a more optimistic note with further wins over Plymouth and Doncaster and confirmation that two more players, midfielders Carl Baker and Gary Deegan were to be signed when the transfer window re-opened.
