'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Sky Blue Season: September

Two home games in a row following the international break saw City take four points out of six and turn in their best display of the season so far in beating Sheffield United 3-2 at the Ricoh Arena.

Midfielder Sammy Clingan looked to be the pick of the summer signings and the Northern Ireland netted his first goal for the club to open the scoring in the next game, away to Preston.

The home side fight back to take all three points however, leaving Chris Coleman to say afterwards: 'We gifted Preston 2 goals, gave them away and they don't need to be given any presents'

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Sam Vokes looked to be on board ahead of the home game against Middlesbrough but the loan deal fell through, leaving Clinton Morrison and Leon Best to continue what had been a fruitful partnership to date.

They were the key men as the Sky Blues resuced a two-goal deficit to earn a point which would later be cited by 'Boro chairman Steve Gibson as the beginning of the end for manager Gareth Southgate.

With Best's contract in his final season, the striker was doing his prospects no harm at all and he was again the hero three days after the Middlesbrough game with two goals to earn three points away at Watford.
