Tony Mowbray signed a two-year contract at the Ricoh Arena in the summer of 2015, much to the surprise of many who felt his short-term success in guiding City to safety the previous season would have seen Mowbray in demand at a higher level.

Faced with starting almost from scratch in terms of the infrastructure of the club, Mowbray made an almost faultless start to his lengthened tenure. Recruitment of new players became a more rigorous process and his stature in the game was also be a factor in the deals City were able to do for the likes of Joe Cole and Ben Turner.

Seen as the managerial future when at Hibs and then West Brom, changes in the game at a higher level saw him drop surprisingly into League One when returning from a break but the appeal of reviving a club such as the Sky Blues, who were all but dead, looks to have been a strong one to someone with a deep understanding of the game's history and place in people's affections.

City's dip in form at a crucial stage of the 2015/16 season left Mowbray scratching his head and admitting that, perhaps, his January signings were not quite suited to the division. He opted to release a large number of players this summer and begin again the task of constructing a squad, the core of which will be Coventry players for some time to come.
