Two in-form sides meet at the Ricoh on Monday night as promotion favourites West Brom are the visitors.
'If we win the game we go above them, so that's a carrot for us and all if a sudden the glass is half full rather than half empty.
'They are a good side and I know we are going to have to be on out mettle against a very good side with pace, quality, skill and people who can hurt you at key moments.'
Robbie Simpson is out with a ruptured hamstring while David McNamee is doubtful.
Leon McKenzie is in contention after a knee injury.
Has helped City look a lot more solid since returning to the side and will need to be on top of his game on Monday night.
Kevin Phillips is out with a knee injury while central defender Martin Albrechtsen damaged medial ligaments against Sheffield Wednesday and faces a month on the sidelines.
Scotland international Craig Beattie is battling to be fit to replace Phillips with Roman Bednar, Bartosz Slusarski and Sherjill MacDonald the other options available to Tony Mowbray.
Leon Barnett and Shelton Martis come into contention to replace Albrechtsen.
The on-loan Manchester City man has starred alongside Phillips this season and will need to keep that going now the veteran striker is out injured.
A hard-fought game at the Ricoh late last season saw West Brom come away 1-0 winners.
Phil Dowd of Staffordshire takes charge.
A trip to bottom club Norwich City for the Sky Blues a week on Saturday, a local derby with Wolves for the Baggies a day later.
