Coventry City begin their 2014/15 campaign away to Bradford City on Saturday afternoon after a summer which, purely in football terms, has been easier for Steven Pressley than his first pre-season at the club.
The Scot has been able to do some business in the transfer market (albeit losing his star striker) and will not be working under a 10-point penalty as he has for virtually all his time with the Sky Blues to date.
Off-field issues remain in turmoil but, certainly in the opening weeks and months of last season, City have shown that they can put those behind them and perform on the pitch.
Pressley, speaking after four friendly games in five days last week, said: 'On the whole I've been very pleased with our preparations, pleased with how we've progressed, and I'm very positive about the Bradford game.'
Phil Parkinson made three new signings this week to bolster a squad that had been thin on numbers going into the new season.
21-year-old former Queens Park Rangers winger Shariff signed a non-contract deal this week after impressing in three trial games for the Bantams.
John Fleck and Shaun Miller played for City's under-21's in midweek and Pressley has plenty of options, in contrast to this time last year.
The experienced striker is set to be the key man in City's attack, both with goals in his own right and bringing others into play.
The two sides met last season for the first time in a decade. A 3-3 draw at Bradford in November was in stark contrast to a goalless scrap at Sixfields in April.
Experienced official Andy D'Urso is in charge.
League Cup action for both clubs as City play Cardiff at Sixfields and Bradford travel to Morecambe.
