On this day - the forgotten cup run
Coventry City made it to a semi-final on the 9th February 1988 but there wasn't quite the fanfare there had been over the Sky Blues' other cup run a year earlier.
A 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town meant a last four spot in the Simod Cup, the competition (set up as the Full Member's Cup) designed to boost income in the wake of English clubs being banned from Europe.
A Wembley final was the carrot but the 'big clubs', ever willing to assist their footballing brethen, decided not to bother taking part.
City were beaten on a penalty shoot-out by Reading in the semi-final, the Royals' going on to lift the trophy after beating Luton Town in the final.
