Lower gates not just City's problem

Much of the focus on Coventry City's financial situation in recent weeks has been on the crowds for games at the Ricoh Arena this season.

But the Sky Blues are only one of a number of clubs facing a similar problem.

Saturday's opponents Plymouth Argyle for instance have seen average league gates drop for three seasons running and again so far this year despite their continued improvement on the pitch.

Coventry's financial problems make the falling gates much more of an urgent issue than elsewhere of course but, aside from the promoted clubs the trend in the Championship appears to be a downward one.

Stoke and Sheffield Wednesday among others have voiced concerns about their crowds this season. With money getting tighter across the country as a whole it's hard to see it improving anytime soon.

Our (Sheff Utd's) crowds are holding up nicely at the moment, how long they will given the Robson effect is another question :( www.sheffutd.vitalfootball.co.uk

It seems to be hitting those clubs who have been in the Championship for a while rather than those who have just come up or gone down.

just a thought but 'conference' crowds are up, is it the admission charges?
