'If It's Football, It's Vital'

On this day: Dublin downs Chelsea

Coventry City took to the field on the 9th August 1997 still perhaps shaking their heads at being a Premier League team following the last-day escape at Tottenham the previous season.

Trond Soltvedt was the only new face in the Sky Blues' line-up while FA Cup winners Chelsea had splashed the cash on the likes of Graeme Le Saux and Tore Andre Flo.

Ruud Gullit's side were expected to challenge for the title and Frank Sinclair looked to have set them on their way with a goal on 39 minutes, only for Dion Dublin to equalise two minutes later.

Flo came off the bench to put the visitors back in front on 71 minutes but a well-worked corner saw Dublin level again with eight minutes left.

A point would have been seen as a good result for City but they went one better when Frank Leboeuf misjudged a long ball over the top and Dublin was left to complete his hat-trick.
