City battle in defeat

Coventry City were denied an unbeaten pre-season by Serie A side Udinese, who ran out 2-0 winners at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday.

Gaetano D'Agostini curled a free-kick home in the first-half and Asamoah Gyan took advantage of a mix-up to seal the victory with ten minutes left.

The impressive Gyan, part of the Ghana squad that played in the 2006 World Cup, earned the applause of the City fans when he was substituted minutes later.

The Sky Blues struggled to create chances in the opening 45 minutes but the introduction of Michael Mifsud caused problems for the Udinese defence, whose goalkeeper looked uncertain when faced with high balls into the box.

Isaac Osbourne impressed at right-back but a couple of individual errors made it a bad day for Marcus Hall, playing in the centre of defence.

Further forward, Julian Gray came into the game more in the second-half, Leon Best showed some quality touches and Leon McKenzie looked lively when he came on.
