City confirm takeover delay

Coventry City managing director Paul Fletcher has admitted that the club's takeover by a US-based consortium is unlikely to happen ahead of the August transfer deadline.

'It's almost certain now it will not be concluded or rushed through quickly just so Iain Dowie gets money to buy new players this summer,' he told The Telegraph as negotiations continue.

'I don't think there's a chance now because of these protracted negotiations. There's no point me misleading him or the fans.

'If you ask me an honest question, I think we've missed this particular transfer window and that's life.'

This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Dowie looks to have put together a decent squad with a mix of experience and youth and a dash of the unknown in Cairo and Simpson and they need time to develop without the pressures of new owners demanding promotion. But...most fans could have predicted it months ago so why the tiresome 'promises' that it was imminent? That only leads to false expectations and more distrust of the men in charge.

True but Fletcher's most recent comment makes depressing reading!
