'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Coventry City week

New Coventry City midfielder Michael Hughes is eyeing a promotion campaign next season.

'I wouldn't have come here otherwise - I would have called it a day if I didn't think there was anything left for me to do,' the 35-year-old told the Coventry Telegraph.

Boss Iain Dowie meanwhile has admitted that he needs to rebuild his reputation following his sacking by Charlton and the court case against Simon Jordan.

He told the Telegraph: 'Everyone talks about reputations and my reputation starts when we go to Barnsley for the first match.

'You build a reputation. I had a good run at Palace but it changes and football is about the future, not the past, and it is important what we do now.'

Craig Bellamy's 'dream' move to Liverpool has lasted just one year. The former Sky Blue is now a West Ham player following a £7.5m deal.

David Pipe has completed his move from Notts County to Bristol Rovers while Charlton and Southampton have joined West Brom in the chase for Youssef Safri.

Julian Joachim could be leaving Darlington. The League Two side are unhappy that he has failed to move to the North-East following his switch from Boston United.

Don Hutchison is on trial with Luton Town following his release by the Sky Blues earlier in the summer while Paul Telfer is poised to sign a deal with Bournemouth.
