'If It's Football, It's Vital'

He played just once - Ian Brightwell

Signed as cover by Gordon Strachan in the summer of 1998 after 12 years with Manchester City, Ian Brightwell's only appearance for Coventry City was in a League Cup tie against Luton Town.

The build-up to the game in October 1998 was overshadowed by Dion Dublin's reported refusal to play at Kenilworth Road as he looked to complete a move to Aston Villa.

Despite facing lower league opposition, the Sky Blues were lucky to reach half-time with the score still goalless and were then beaten by two second-half strikes.

Brightwell went on to play for Walsall, Stoke, Port Vale and Macclesfield where he is still registered as a player and is also part of the backroom staff.
