Aloisi set to return home

Ex-Coventry City forward John Aloisi could be set for a return to his homeland with interest from A-League side Queensland Roar in his signature.

The 31-year-old was a popular figure during his time at Highfield Road despite never really getting a regular run as a starter under Gordon Strachan and is remembered for scoring twice in the 4-1 at Aston Villa in February 1999.

He moved to Osasuna in 2001 and still plays in Spain for Alaves.

'We've opened talks with him and we will speak again in the very near future - hopefully to make further progress,' Roar boss Frank Farina has been quoted as saying.

'I've spoken to John's people and we have a starting point for our discussions.

'His contract at Alaves expires this season and naturally we are very interested in a player of his capabilities.

'We are very keen to pursue talks with John and there is no doubt that he would be a great acquisition for both the club and the A-League. He would be a good fit all round.'
