Piper in, McSheffrey linked

Piper in, McSheffrey linked

The 24-year-old winger joined Sunderland from Leicester City in 2002 for a fee of £3.5million.

His time at the Stadium of Light though has been marred by serious injury problems, meaning he has made just four first-team appearances in the last two seasons.

City boss Micky Adams, who worked with the player at Leicester, will assess Piper's fitness before offering him a loan move to the Ricoh Arena.

Sky Blues striker Gary McSheffrey meanwhile has been linked with a move to Norwich City in the transfer window.

Norwich boss Nigel Worthington is thought to be drawing up a list of targets should he sell Dean Ashton with McSheffrey one of the players he wants.
