'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Dowie delighted

Iain Dowie was full of praise for his new Coventry City side after they defeated Southampton 2-1 in his first game in charge at the Ricoh Arena.

'I thought the players' commitment, effort, spirit and togetherness was second to none,' said the boss, who is set to sign Michael Hughes on loan from Crystal Palace this week.

'There were a few weary legs out there tonight - there were lads who hadn't trained or played a lot. They have put in a huge shift against a top side.

'It's a big result, I thought it would be a tough game and so it turned out.'

New Manager syndrome works for about 4 weeks, watch the last 3 or 4 games of the season, I hope he doe's not go mad in the transfer market as I feel this was his mistake at Chalton where it took too long for so many players to bed in.

At present he wouldn't be able to as City have no money although that could change. He only got 12 games at Charlton so the jury is still out on whether his new signings would have bedded in or not.

I do know what you mean about new manager, but I do think this is more than that I beleive City have made a great choice and things are on the up
