Dogged City Set Up Top Hat Clash

Dogged City Set Up Top Hat Clash

Coventry City managed to avoid the pitfall that was bottom club Barnet on Saturday, a game of football in name only where the only thing that mattered was which side managed to get the crucial goal.

On a number of occasions this season, against teams towards the foot of League Two, City have failed to do just that but Jonson Clarke-Harris's 75th minute winner keeps play-off hopes firmly alive in CV6.

The deadline signing seems to be revelling in a regular run of first-team matches and the responsibility, alongside Marc McNulty, of being the Sky Blues main hope of a goal.

With the job done against Barnet attention now turns to Tuesday evening and the arrival of Luton Town to the Ricoh Arena, a test of City's excellent record this season against teams in and around them in the promotion chase.

The Hatters were picked off 3-0 at Kenilworth Road earlier in the campaign in a textbook example of an away-day performance from Mark Robins' side.

That proved only a temporary setback to their hopes of going up although Saturday's home defeat by Accrington Stanley did knock Luton off the top of the table.

With struggling sides Crewe Alexandra and Grimsby Town next to come for the Sky Blues, a draw may not be the worst result in the world but it is likely to be a game that is easier on the eye than Saturday's Barnet battle with Luton having netted 76 goals to date this season, almost twice as many as City.
