EFL Summer Transfer Window Vote Imminent

EFL Summer Transfer Window Vote Imminent

EFL member clubs are set to vote on changes to the summer transfer window today.

Today sees representatives of all 72 EFL member clubs meet at Aston Villa's Villa Park for a meeting where the topic of discussion will be a change to the deadline of the summer transfer window.

Following lengthy discussions in September between all 72 clubs, the proposal largely agreed upon will go to the vote today.

The suggestion is that the window will close at 5pm on Thursday August 9th with the loan window remaining open until August 31st.

The vote itself will be decided based on a majority of Championship clubs voting for the change, as well as all League One and Two clubs to be in support of it as well according to Sky Sports.

If the proposal passes, it will bring the EFL window into line with the Premier League transfer window, as the Premier League held a vote back in September themselves to close the window early.

The main driver being transfer saga's such as Virgil van Dijk and Phillipe Coutinho as a number of clubs expressed concern about squad disruption after the first balls of a new campaign had been kicked.

The Premier League window will now close two days before the opening kick off of a new campaign, whilst the - if passed - EFL window would shut following the opening round of fixtures.

The meeting will be attended by chief executives, chairman and club officials and we should have the answer by late evening you would think.
