West Brom Confirm Regis Funeral Details

West Brom Confirm Regis Funeral Details

Following the sad passing of the legend that was Cyrille Regis this week, West Bromwich Albion have confirmed the details of his funeral and how all Midland's fans can pay their respects.

Having represented West Bromwich Albion, Coventry City, Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers, the England man was clearly loved across the Midlands but fans of Wycombe Wanderers and Chester City will also count him as one of their own as well.

Following a request by the Professional Footballers' Association on Thursday, Friday saw the Premier League confirm that clubs would hold a minutes applause to recognise both his life as a man, a player and the role he played in terms of being a pioneer for black footballers across his career.

The EFL has not officially organised a formal tribute, but has offered it's support to any club who wishes to pay tribute this weekend.

A Premier League statement read.

'The Premier League recognises the important career of Cyrille Regis, and his special role as a trailblazer for black players in modern English football. The League embraces requests from clubs and stakeholders to celebrate the lives of people who have made a unique contribution to the sport.'

With the EFL adding.

'The EFL understands the strength of feeling throughout football for the impact Cyrille Regis made as a player and as a campaigner for black players in the game. We will always support the recognition of players who have left a lasting legacy on our game.'

A statement from West Bromwich Albion read.

'Cyrille`s funeral will go ahead on Tuesday, January 30 in a private family service. This will be followed by the opportunity for Cyrille`s wider circle of admirers, from football and beyond, to join the family at the stadium he always considered home for a celebration of his life and career. This will be staged in the East Stand, looking out to the pitch which graced his thrilling talents, and be conducted by Pastor David Carr from the church Cyrille attended, the Renewal Christian Centre in Solihull. This open-air service is scheduled to commence at 11am.'

Albion confirmed seats are available to all who wish to pay their respects to the man, irrespective of the club colours they generally sport and further details will be announced next week on how fans and the general public can attend.

The statement went on to say.

'Supporters will have a chance to say their farewells earlier in the day as Cyrille`s funeral cortege will leave The Hawthorns at 8.45am. The Club are making plans to accommodate those fans who wish to salute Cyrille at that time before the cortege leaves for the private family service.'
