Sky Blues Add Some Magic To The Cup

Coventry City are making national headlines, for the right reasons, on Saturday evening after their FA Cup triumph over Stoke City in a pulsating Third Round tie at the Ricoh Arena.

Seemingly hanging on for the prospect of a replay after the Premier League side levelled Jordan Willis' opener with a Charlie Adam penalty after half-time, the Sky Blues took the lead again through a fantastic goal from Jack Grimmer and then put their bodies on the line to maintain their advantage.

The victory, and the 90 minutes itself, was made all the better by the fact that Stoke fielded a strong side and desperately tried to get the kind of result that would give under-fire manager Mark Hughes some breathing space.

A large travelling support and a bigger than usual Ricoh Arena crowd created a genuine cup-tie atmosphere and showed that there is life in the famous old competition yet.

Much of the focus will be on Hughes but credit has been given in many quarters, from the commentators on BBC Five Live to the national media reports, to the performance of Mark Robins' side.

'It's an outstanding achievement, against a team full of stars, some of whom will be playing in internationals and at the World Cup this summer,' said Robins, who now wants to face Manchester United away from home in the next round.

'To come out and not scrap or hold on, we were deserved winners.'
