New City Signing Aims To Add To Reading Tally

New City Signing Aims To Add To Reading Tally

With a new contract safely signed at Reading, frontman Josh Barrett is aiming to show the Royals management that he can cut it in senior football when he begins his loan spell as a Coventry City player at the beginning of January.

The 19-year-old wideman, signed by Mark Robins to try and replace some of the width and creativity lost to Jodi Jones' season-ending injury, will spend the remainder of the campaign with the Sky Blues as they aim to upgrade their play-off position for an automatic promotion place.

With much of the transfer market for lower divisions club in January restricted to those on the fringes in the Premier League and Championship, finding the right player, especially in attacking areas, can prove extremely tricky as City supporters have witnessed at first hand all too often over the past few years.

But Barrett, who has already begun training with his new colleagues, looks to be coming to the Ricoh Arena match-ready and with goals in his locker having netted eight times for Reading's Under-23's to date this season.

Speaking to the official Royals website he said this week: 'I haven't been involved as much as I would like but I'm obviously happy to commit my future to Reading, and hopefully one day get in the first team.

'Right now I've got a chance to go out on loan and play in 'proper' football, go and enjoy myself and hopefully come back in pre-season and hopefully get another chance to prove to everyone that I'm good enough to be playing in the first team.'

A previous Reading loanee, Dominic Samuel in 2014/15, provided good value for the Sky Blues money as he netted 6 times in 13 games for a struggling side.

Barrett comes into a camp that should be in good spirits, despite the Boxing Day defeat at Port Vale, and will hopefully make a similar impact when given his opportunity.
