(Very) Cautious Christmas Optimism At Coventry City

City supporters can head into Christmas with some very cautious optimism after a good few days for the Sky Blues.

On the field, Friday evening's 3-2 victory against Wycombe Wanderers was an excellent three points against very tough opposition and lifted City to within touching distance of the promotion places heading into a busy week of fixtures.

Mark Robins will have been delighted with the application of his side, recovering from the blow of losing a two-goal lead and keeping at bay a dangerous Chairboys attack full of experience and power.

With three more matches to come before he can call on reinforcements, the Sky Blues boss will just be pleased that the chance of automatic promotion, which could have faded sharply in the wake of the defeat at Morecambe, remains ahead of new signings coming in to strengthen his options.

The first of those has already been snapped up, Reading striker Josh Barrett having already started training with the team-mates he will spend the next five months with.

Robins' record in the transfer market is another reason to be cheerful as he is set to repeat his summer feat of getting new bodies into the building with the minimum of fuss and giving them the maximum of time to adapt to life with CCFC.

Carl Baker may or may not feature in Sky Blue shirt again but there will be other signings come what may.

And chief executive Dave Boddy's 'imminent announcement' about where the club will be playing next season and beyond points to some kind of stability off the field to go with that Robins is providing on the pitch.
