January Window: Recruitment 'Working' Says City Boss

January Window: Recruitment 'Working' Says City Boss

Speaking to Andy Turner of the Coventry Telegraph this week, Sky Blues boss Mark Robins was confident that he would be able to get the players he has identified as turning Coventry City from play-off possibles into promotion contenders over the second-half of the 2017/18 season.

Crucially, given the abysmal state that the squad was allowed to get into last season, Robins said: 'The recruitment side of things is working so we have got players that we`re ready to pursue, positions we're looking to strengthen.'

That is testament to what Robins was quick to realise when returning to the club earlier this year, that recruitment and the process of recruitment was key to him having any chance of bringing success.

With the hard work having been done in the summer, in terms of permanent signings coming into the club on longer-term deals, Robins can now focus on quality in the loan market to add to a squad that he believes is good enough to get out of League Two at the first time of asking.

Dealt a difficult hand with the injuries to Tony Andreu and Jodi Jones, the Coventry boss has still managed to keep his side on course to be involved at the business end of the campaign.

Players such as Jordan Shipley have taken their opportunity with aplomb and the likes of Marc McNulty have responded to the manager's call for more with his recent run of goalscoring form.
