The Road to Wembley

Coventry City host Boreham Wood in the FA Cup Second Round this weekend, a second successive home game against National League opposition in the competition for the Sky Blues.

Less than 4,000 watched the previous tie against Maidenhead United but, like Maidenhead, Boreham Wood's supporters are looking forward to their trip to the Ricoh Arena and the fixture represents possibly the biggest in their history.

The Wood have been upwardly mobile in recent seasons, well-run as a club and a genuine part of their local community.

A link-up with Arsenal sees the Gunners Ladies play their matches at Meadow Park as well as Arsenal Under-23's with the occasional pre-season visit from Arsene Wenger and some of his stars.

Saturday's victory against Woking lifted Boreham Wood into the top seven of the National League which would be enough for a play-off place after
changes were made to the structure in pre-season.

Former Sky Blues youngster Shaun Jeffers is part of their squad as is ex-City man Blair Turgott.

With City's game again moved to Sunday, another FA competition provides local interest on Saturday.

Racing Club Warwick host Wisbech Town in the FA Vase, hoping to beat their best-ever run in the tournament with a victory that would take them into the last 32.

To do so, the Racers will have to get past the man who played in goal for Coventry City in their 1987 FA Youth Cup triumph.

Paul Bastock is still going strong between the sticks and recently beat Peter Shilton's apperance record.
