'League One' Striker Can Fire Sky Blues

'League One' Striker Can Fire Sky Blues

With his worst fears about the injury to Jodi Jones having been realised, Coventry City manager Mark Robins is backing one of his summer signings to help fill the gap left by the absence of his creative talisman.

Marc McNulty arrived at the Ricoh Arena, during the close season, looking to establish himself as a first-team regular after a frustating spell at Sheffield United that saw him loaned out on two occasions, firstly to Portsmouth and then to Bradford City.

He brought a healthy goals ratio to the table, however, and has already netted five times for the Sky Blues including the opening goal in Tuesday evening's 1-1 draw at Stevenage in which Jones sustained his injury.

Robins told a meeting of the Sky Blue Trust on Thursday evening that McNulty is probably a player more suited to League One than the rough and tumble of the basement division.

But he added, quoted in the Coventry Telegraph, that the 25-year-old was a ' top, top striker that we`re lucky to have.'

Jones' absence does open the door for those fringe players who have been unable to break into a settled City side so far this season, starting with the visit of Crawley to CV6 on Saturday afternoon.
