Robins Right to Talk Up Sky Blues

Robins Right to Talk Up Sky Blues

Speaking after Saturday's 1-0 defeat at the hands of Mansfield Town, a late goal for the Stags compounding the frustration of those at the Ricoh Arena who had seen Coventry City fail to find the crucial strike in a tight game, Sky Blues manager Mark Robins backed his side for the battles that lie ahead in League Two.

Robins, annoyed at what he saw as histrionics on and off the pitch from the visitors, stated his belief that he has assembled the best side in the division and felt there wasn`t too much wrong with a performance that had most elements aside from a crucial goal.

Unlike the two previous single-goal defeats in CV6 this season, against Newport County and Forest Green Rovers, this wasn't a smash-and-grab raid by Mansfield and, much like the England versus Germany clash at Wembley on Friday evening, the fact that both teams tried to win the game made for a better spectacle.

That will not lessen the pain of defeat for Robins, with City having begun to build up a head of steam thanks to their run of three successive victories in different competitions prior to this one.

But he is right to make public his belief that the squad he has assembled are more than capable of finishing top of the pile come the end of a season that is still some way short of being half-completed.

City's players are comfortable in the system they are being asked to play and there is good competition for most of the places in the side.

The lack of goals remains a problem but one that looks to require just a slight tweak rather than any major surgery.
