Miserly Sky Blues See Off Crewe Challenge

Miserly Sky Blues See Off Crewe Challenge

Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Duckens Nazon, assisted by Jodi Jones (his sixth of the season) was the goalscoring difference for Coventry City on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Crewe Alexandra 1-0 at the Ricoh Arena to maintain their solid start to the League Two season.

Nazon is fast becoming a cult hero among Sky Blues supporters, and Jones provides the kind of creativity that sets the team apart from many others in the division, but it is further back on the field that Mark Robins' team are laying the foundations for some positive results.

The defence is currently picking itself with Jordan Willis and Rod McDonald forming a partnership in central defence that is matched for quality by that of Liam Kelly and Michael Doyle in front of them.

Add in Jack Grimmer and Chris Stokes at full-back and Lee Burge, now firmly re-established as first-choice in goal, continuing the form he showed towards the end of last season and it makes for very pleasant reading for City fans as they celebrate a third win in eight days.

Leaving aside the midweek trip to Walsall in the Football League Trophy, City are now gearing up for a trip to Barnet next Saturday and a chance to show a live TV audience what they can do.

Excellent stuff. Jones is clearly the difference in tight games at this level. It would be surprising if he did not attract attention from the Championship, never mind League One, in January.
