Adams: we deserved nothing

Coventry City's poorest display for some time resulted in a New Year's Eve reverse at Deepdale yesterday and manager Micky Adams conceded after the game that his side had been second best.

He commented: 'We never really got going first half at all. To be honest, we didn't deserve to get anything.

'I thought we were poor as a team in the first half, and the scoreline (3-0 to Preston) flattered us at half-time.'

The only bright spot for the Sky Blues was Stern John's excellent performance after coming on as a substitute.

The much-criticised striker scored a goal and was a lively presence throughout the second-half and will surely get a further chance to impress against Wolves tomorrow.

'Stern John came on and was terrific,' said Adams.

'He's a goalscorer. He thrives on goals.'

Preston manager Billy Davies was a happy man after his extended their long unbeaten run, saying: 'It was a tremendous performance from the team and an excellent three points.
