Can City Add Baker To Their Dozen Signings?
A very productive summer in the transfer market for Coventry City began almost as soon as the 2016/17 season ended with a move to bring midfielder Michael Doyle back to the Ricoh Arena where he was installed as captain for his second spell as a Sky Blues player.
And could the window end with another midfielder leaving Portsmouth to re-sign for CCFC?
Reports linking Carl Baker with the club could almost be described as wishful thinking on the part of supporters keen to see one of the most popular former players pull on the Sky Blue shirt again.
But Baker's absence from the Pompey squad that faced Walsall at the weekend has given rise to more speculation about his future, although manager Kenny Jackett has told local newspaper The News that he still considers the player to be part of his plans for the campaign ahead.
'It's up to players to battle back,' said Jackett.
'Any player not playing is going to be disappointed if they don't get selected.'
City's recruitment has been widely welcomed by fans but Saturday's 1-0 defeat at the hands of Newport County may have sparked the feeling that just one more new face is required (although we will always say that of course) in attacking areas to provide the kind of spark that is needed to break down stubborn defences of the kind faced by the Sky Blues at the weekend.
