Sky Blues Spring Second Transfer Surprise
Coventry City sprang their second surprise of the fledgling close-season by announcing a deal on Thursday to sign striker Marc McNulty when his contract with Sheffield United expires shortly.
Having already agreed to bring midfielder Michael Doyle back to the club, manager Mark Robins has pulled off another positive looking signing with the capture of the 24-year-old who enjoyed a productive loan spell in League Two, alongside Doyle at Portsmouth, in 2015/16.
What will encourage City supporters the most is that Robins has quickly identified the two key problem areas that so afflicted them in last season's relegation campaign, that of a leader on the pitch and someone to put the ball into the net on a regular basis.
Speaking to the official club website, Robins said: 'Goalscoring was clearly an area requiring improvement from last season, and I'm delighted to have been given the support to improve this area with a player of Marc`s undoubted quality.'
Supporters will get the chance to watch Doyle and McNulty in pre-season action with friendlies scheduled at Sutton United, Barnsley, Mickleover Sports and the tournament at Nuneaton Town.
