Trio In EFL Trophy Team Of The Tournament (3/4/17)
Coventry City are represented in the EFL Trophy Team of the Tournament that has been selected after this weekends Final at Wembley.
With Wembley Stadium seeing a record breaking attendance for the Final showpiece after earlier, erm, issues with the competition and the way fans took to the new format involving Category One Academy sides being invited in, a Team of the Tournament was drawn up following Coventry City's two one victory over Oxford United.
The performances by Ryan Haynes, Jordan Willis and Jodi Jones across the competition this year was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Trophy competition.
I think we'll already know ourselves why the trio were selected as part of the team but explaining the choice - the FL blurb read.
'The first of three Coventry players to make the selection, Haynes has shone at full-back en route to the final. Along with showing his defensive capabilities, the 21-year-old also chipped in with three goals to aid the Sky Blues' progression.'
'Coventry's captain led by example from the back, helping the club march to the final unbeaten. When it looked like they were heading for defeat in the quarter-finals, 22-year-old Willis popped up late on with his second goal of the competition, taking it to a triumphant penalty shoot-out for the Sky Blues.'
'One of the creative forces behind Coventry's campaign was Jones, whose trickery caused opposition defences all sorts of problems. The teenage talent's visionary passing and dangerous deliveries led to four assists en route to the final.'
It's always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to all three for their recognition.
