'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ex-City star has Beckham doubts

Former Coventry City midfielder Steve Hunt, a member of the famous New York Cosmos side alongside Pele in the late 70's and early 80's, doubts that David Beckham's move to LA Galaxy will lead to football becoming any more popular in the US.

He said: 'Pele changed things initially when he arrived but in my last year there, in 1982, he had gone and there was already a downward spiral.

'Becks will do everything he can and I hope he succeeds.

'I just wonder what the situation will be over there five years after he has finished.'
