CCFC: A Little Hope is a Dangerous Thing

This time last year Coventry City were preparing for their first league match of the season, away at Crawley Town, after the most turbulent summer in the club's long history saw them move out of their home city to groundshare at Northampton's Sixfields ground.

The first few weeks of the campaign passed by in a kind of parallel universe as the first two games played in Northampton coincided with events at the Ricoh Arena which attracted decent-sized crowds. At that stage perhaps we all thought that the bad dream was about to end soon.

It didn't of course and the sense of two separate City's continued throughout the season with the number of supporters travelling to away games often being larger than those watching 'home' fixtures.

That sense of disbelief has turned a little more to anger in recent times as the prospect of a return to the Ricoh is dangled tantalisingly in front but always just too far away to grab.

The hope that the recent court case would prove a watershed moment still remains but in the short-term it will be Sixfields again where City start the new season.

On the field at least there is no points penalty to contend with this time around and Steven Pressley and his squad have a fair chance of mounting a push for the play-offs.
