City Stand Alone Among The 92
As an excellent World Cup prepares to enter the knockout stage, with the sun shining on players as they prepare for pre-season training and with only a couple of weeks until the first friendlies, it should be a time of optimism at all 92 Premier League and Football League clubs.
Even when teams were relegated last season or lost out in the play-offs at Wembley and even, as at West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United, when managerial appointments have caused some head-scratching.
But Coventry City supporters stand alone among all of the clubs despite the presence of an impressive young manager, some talented young players (and currently one exceptional one in Callum Wilson) and some good professionals among the squad.
Because everything the club does is viewed through the prism of the move away from Coventry it has stripped away any kind of optimism before the harsh reality of a 46-game season in League One does that anyway.
Even some large away followings, a good cup run or a push for promotion won't change that as, depending on your point of view, it strengthens or weakens the case for moving back home.
