Sunderland Exit for Ex-Sky Blue Westwood

Sunderland Exit for Ex-Sky Blue Westwood

To those Coventry City supporters who saw him in action on a consistent basis it is hard to believe that Keiren Westwood has been unable to establish himself as a Premier League regular since moving to Sunderland.

Injuries at key times have hampered the Ireland international and the performances of Vito Mannone at the Stadium of Light last season have convinced manager Gus Poyet that Westwood is free to leave the club.

A step back into the Championship may be on the cards for the 29-year-old who was used to being a number one both at City and previous club Carlisle United, racking up a total of 264 league appearances in seven seasons for those clubs compared to just 18 league starts since moving to Sunderland in the summer of 2011.
