Steven Pressley's one year in charge of Coventry City, celebrated on Saturday, already puts him into the top 50 of longest serving managers in the English game and his stock south of the border will have risen sharply after guiding City to a top-half position despite the points penalty imposed at the start of the season.
That is the headline measure by which any manager will be judged but it is the Scot's steely determination and faith in his own judgement that has steered the club (on the playing side) through the biggest crisis in its history and endeared Pressley to everyone associated with CCFC regardless of their own views on the current situation.
While many managers pay lip service to the youth ranks it seems as though Pressley genuinely knows what is going on at all levels of the club and that he is keen to make the Academy the main source of future players for the first team.
As he told the Coventry Telegraph: 'I have seen definite improvements in a lot of areas of the club; many areas that I don`t think the supporters generally see. There is a far greater connection between our Academy, Under-18s and the first team and these are important aspects in terms of the rebuilding of the club.'
That long-term work has come alongside the immediate requirement to get results on the pitch and Pressley admitted: 'I think there`s maybe more work than I anticipated.'
So far he has managed it with aplomb and if he celebrates a second year in charge in March 2015 then hopefully City will be challenging for promotion at the top of League One.
