The Ricoh Arena stirs into life
The past week has seen a marked stepping up of the use of the Ricoh Arena for football with three separate teams using Coventry City's old home for matches.
After staging an Under-21 fixture there in midweek, Leicester City's youngsters will be back at the Ricoh for a higher-profile game when Manchester United Under-21's visit for a league game on Monday 3 February at 7pm.
Coventry City Ladies are set to stage their FA Cup tie against Stoke City at the stadium and a deal has also been signed to host a Northamptonshire-based non-league club who look to get young players a professional contract.
It's an interesting experiment as to whether the venue can survive and thrive even without an achor tenant but by offering itself as an alternative home for professional clubs in the region to play their Under-21 games while local semi-professional teams play big games there. Presumably the Ricoh is still in the mix to host some high-profile Rugby Union matches as well.
Whether it has any impact on Coventry City's own situation is debatable. Until the outcome of the court case involving the club and the stadium owners is heard it is business as usual
