Sackings In South Yorkshire As City Loanees Shine

Coventry City's excellent 3-1 win at Milton Keynes on Saturday was fashioned, in part, in South Yorkshire as loanee forwards Chris Dagnall (Barnsley) and Chris Maguire (Sheffield Wednesday) made themselves instant hits with Sky Blues supporters by both netting on their debuts.

By a strange coincidence the managers who signed off on the loan deals have both been sacked this weekend.

Barnsley's 3-0 home defeat by Birmingham City saw them dismiss David Flitcroft on Saturday evening while Sheffield Wednesday axed Dave Jones on Sunday after a reverse at Blackpool left the Owls still stuck on just league win to date this season.

Maguire made a particular impact with two superb free-kicks in front of the travelling army of City fans. He found it difficult to nail down a regular place under Jones at Hillsborough but will be trying his utmost now to impress any potential new manager.

I knew Owls fans quite liked him but didn't know he was a free-kick expert!
