CCFC Is Still Our Club

CCFC Is Still Our Club

The consistently excellent football blog 200% has posed the question, in the wake of the Northampton/CCFC groundshare bombshell, as to whether it is time for a breakway club to be formed to represent the city of Coventry.

It`s a fair question and one that will get more and more relevant if/when the groundshare is ratified and the reality of CCFC playing their 'home` games 34 miles away hits home.

The Vital view, however, is that the time has not yet come for such a drastic move.

The two most successful 'breakaway` clubs have been AFC Wimbledon and FC United of Manchester.

The former had almost 100% support from fans of the old Wimbledon after the owners of that club moved, lock, stock and barrel to Milton Keynes. The latter have shown that they can co-exist with the behemoth that is Manchester United given the fanbase involved.

A 'phoenix` Coventry club at this stage would split a fanbase that needs to be kept together. At present our club continues to exist and it will be supported to the hilt at away games this season.

That strength of numbers will be needed to keep the club alive and return to health.
