CCFC: Better Off On Loan?
Young full-back Aaron Phillips has signed a new Coventry City contract this summer and is being challenged to stake a claim for a first-team place in 2013/14 by manager Steven Pressley.
Phillips spent time on loan with Nuneaton last season and will surely benefit from playing in the tough environment of the Conference (especially for a side that was considered a minnow at that level last season).
The step up to League One level should now come in his stride, more so perhaps than he if had just experienced a diet of under-21 football.
Under-21 games, as often as not played in the afternoon at a training ground, cannot give nearly the same kind of experience to a player as a Saturday afternoon fixture in front of a paying crowd where three points is at stake.
City clearly have an informal link with Nuneaton that has been of benefit to the Conference club in the past couple of seasons. Now that the Sky Blues will be relying more and more on young players themselves they will hope to reap the rewards of the kind of experience that Phillips, Lee Burge and others will be gaining at Liberty Way.
