'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Would The Football League Make The Big Call?

One of the increasing number of 'expert' commentators on football finance, administration and insolvency has raised hopes that Coventry City may have to be put up for sale once again if the Football League deem that preferred bidders Otium Entertainment Group are not 'fit and proper' people to be running the club.

Brendan Guilfoyle's specific issue with the sale to Otium is the lack of security of tenure at a stadium of Coventry and the currently unspecific plans for a new ground to be built.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph about the next stage in the process, gaining the Golden Share of league membership, guilfoyle said: 'I don`t think you can say to the Football League, 'we`re going to groundshare and then build a stadium in three years,` when you haven`t even got planning permission or submitted a plan.

'So I think they have got major difficulties, major difficulties, in complying with the Football League`s insolvency policy.'

SISU, however, would presumably be confident enough in their plans to have reached this stage while it would be a big call for the league (not noted as an organisation to rock the boat) to go against the status quo that currently exists.

Sadly what should happen and what will happen are likely to be two different things. The timescales of these sorts of things do not fit well with the onset of a new football season.
