Nothing Controversial On Sky Blue Kits!

Amidst controversy over the use of payday loan companies as shirt sponsors, a look back at Coventry City kits since the early 1980's shows a local flavour to the firms that have adorned the Sky Blues' shirts.

The motor industry has been well represented with Talbot (a request to rename the club Coventry Talbot was politely declined by the Football League), Peugeot and Subaru/Isuzu while local companies such as Tallon, Elliotts and Cassidy Group have also featured.

While there have been trends elsewhere in the game for sponsorship associated with alcohol and gambling, the only such association that City have had was with Granada Bingo but it seems unlikely that our 1987 FA Cup triumph led to a lifetime's addiction to the smoky Bingo halls of Coventry for a generation of fans!

I remember Spurs kits on cup final day - half had Holsten on and the rest were blank. Sponsors would not have been happy!
