'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Hedman back in the Prem!

Magnus Hedman is set for a shock return to English football as cover for injured Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given.

The 33-year-old former Swedish international retired in the summer of 2005 so can join the Magpies as a free agent outside the transfer window.

Hedman said: "It was a surprise but I was flattered people still remember me, even though I`ve not played for a while.

"I would only need three weeks to regain peak fitness. I have been practising martial arts since I retired, so I am in good shape."

Hedman made 151 appearances for Coventry City between 1997 and 2002.
