In Praise Of Oggy

After enjoying an excellent start to his time as interim manager of Coventry City Football Club, Lee Carsley was quick to pay tribute to the contribution of his backroom team, in particular Steve Ogrizovic.

Few would have argued with giving the big man a job for life upon his playing retirement but Oggy obviously offers a lot more than simply being a figurehead, a rare link to the past in a fast-changing environment.

From watching Oggy on the touchline this season it is clear that first Mark Robins and now Carsley value the input of the legendary former Sky Blues custodian in addition to his duties as goalkeeping coach.

He is acting as assistant manager to Carsley and, with both men having a link to the club, it would be good to see them make a play to get the job on a full-time basis.
