City Reap Dividends As Clarke Hits Form

Leon Clarke endeared himself to two sets of supporters on Friday night as his double for Coventry City downed Sheffield United and led to a stream of congratulations from fans of his old club Sheffield Wednesday.

A quick glance at Clarke's career to date shows him to have had something of a nomadic time but his record at League One level is a good one and he has continued with City where he left off at Scunthorpe in a loan spell earlier this season.

Any signing is a gamble, any striker signing even more so and any striker signing to replace a prolific goalscorer even more than that.

The Sky Blues, however, deserve praise for settling on their man and bringing him into the club before David McGoldrick had even left even if Clarke's excellent start to his time in a City shirt couldn't have been predicted.

His capture took the sting out of McGoldrick's exit and any negative headlines and comments that would have followed if a replacement had not already been signed.

Chalk one up to those resonsible for identifying and signing the player!
