Clarke At The Double For Sky Blues

Clarke At The Double For Sky Blues

Former Sheffield Wednesday striker Leon Clarke made a triumphant return to the Steel City on Friday night with two goals to guide Coventry City past Sheffield United and earn the Sky Blues three vital points in the battle for a play-off place.

Clarke netted early as the visitors controlled the first-half and then in the dying minutes after the hosts had fought back to dominate the second 45 minutes, equalising through Dave Kitson.

Job done once again for City away from home and they can now sit back and enjoy their Saturday knowing they are doing all they can to reach the top-six with attention then turning to Tuesday night's big JPT final at a sold-out Ricoh Arena.

That kind of scenario seemed a million miles away when Mark Robins took over and he said after the game: "We had a slow start which I think was three points when I took over. If you are in the bottom four after twelve games generally you end up somewhere around about that. If you have a really good run, it might be mid-table but we`ll see.

"I'm pleased with the performance tonight and if we get more performances like that from now until the end of the season it will be great."

Could have gone either way when they equalised but we have confidence in the way we are playing and earning the bit of luck that you sometimes need, e.g the winning goal.
