'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Coventry City 3 Preston North End 2

The Northern Area semi-final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy saw Coventry City take on Preston North End at the Ricoh Arena on Thursday night.

With 7,500 tickets sold by the morning of the match and a healthy walk-up expected it was set to be another exciting night in the competition in a game that was also televised live on Sky Sports.

Both sides went into the game fully aware of the others' strengths after a 1-1 draw in League One at the same venue just before Christmas.

'Preston came to the Ricoh a couple of weeks ago and put in a really good performance in the second half and made life difficult for us,' said Mark Robins prior to the match.

'We expect the same, we know what to expect from them, we've seen them and they've seen us. I think it will be a good game.'

***Update*** What a night at the Ricoh as two City goals in injury time sent them into the area final amid fantastic scenes.

Mark Robins told the official club website that his side had 'not played very well' but praised the spirit and character that rescued the situation and kept Wembley firmly on the horizon.

A great finish, full credit to the manager as all of his substitutions made a big impact. He will have been gutted to have lost against Graham Westley. PUSB!
