'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Florence And The (Goal) Machine

Two class acts were on display at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday, both sending home 10,000+ crowds in a happy mood after displaying their quality over the space of an hour-and-a-half.

Florence and the Machine thrilled in the evening but it was David McGoldrick who was again the star of the show for Coventry City in their win over Walsall.

'I don't think we handled McGoldrick, who is a class above this level," said Saddlers boss Dean Smith after the game, summing up the double-edged sword that is the on-loan striker`s scintillating form as Championship clubs must be queuing up to make offers to Nottingham Forest for the player in January.

`blurred`

Although the rent row made all the headlines before the match the only signs of it during the 90 minutes came from some ironic chants from the away supporters. City fans kept their counsel , partly because the lines are becoming slightly more blurred as to who is to blame but mostly through tiredness over the whole affair.

What most supporters want is their team to play some decent football, score some goals and give it their all. It`s a lot easier to focus on the field of play when you get that and that is what Mark Robins and his side are delivering at the moment.

The off-field issues must come to a head at some point but for one day it was a pleasure to watch a quality artist at work, backed up by a committed group taking pride in their work.

I think we will make McGoldrick a decent offer but if a team with realistic hopes of promotion from the Championship come in for him it will be hard to get him. The way we are playing should allow someone else to come in and get goals as we are creating lots of chances.
