If Not McGoldrick Then...?

The scintillating form of on-loan Coventry City striker David McGoldrick is playing a key role in the Sky Blues' gradual rise up the League One table but, inevitably, there is a slight downside to his record-breaking scoring run.

McGoldrick has now netted for six away games on the trot and is the joint-leading goalscoer in League One. While that has earned him the affections of Coventry fans it has also made him an in-demand player with the January transfer window fast approaching.

A return to Nottingham Forest is highly unlikely, regardless of how many goals McGoldrick scores, but Championship sides are taking an interest in the forward who turns 25 at the end of November and should have his best years ahead of him.

'Interest from Holland?'

On Monday, indeed, Sky Sports reported that five Championship clubs as well as FC Twente could make a move for the player.

Despite the naysayers it is clear that City will make every effort to sign McGoldrick permanently but interest from a higher level will stretch wage demands and any transfer fee and also provide a temptation to the player, however happy he is at the Ricoh Arena.

Robins told the official CCFC website last Thursday: "We know he will generate interest amongst other clubs but we will also know that we have been really good for him and if he remains with us, we can make him better."

Should the Sky Blues not get their man then who will they turn to? The manager will have his targets in mind but will be hoping that he doesn`t need to pursue them too much.
