'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Coventry City 1 Carlisle 2

Coventry City began life under the management of Mark Robins with a home game against Carlisle United on Saturday, the new boss taking over a club that fell to 23rd in League One with Tuesday night's hammering at the hands of Shrewsbury.

Based on the reports he had received about his new charges Robins moved into the transfer market even before his first game, making three signings on Friday in a bid to inspire City to their maiden league victory of the campaign. With his first XI, however, he opted to hand another chance to those players still at the club as Gary McSheffrey, Carl Baker and John Fleck all started.

Danny Cadamarteri put the visitors in front from the penalty spot but City went in level at half-time thanks to David McGoldrick. Hopes of a welcome win however were dashed by Danny Livesey's second-half strike.

At least one Coventry kid went home happy at the result as Carlisle manager Greg Abbott celebrated a win in his hometown. He told BBC Radio Cumbria afterwards: "It has been a really nice day, a special day and I would have said that before the game regardless of the result."
