Norwich boss slams McKenzie

Norwich City manager Nigel Worthington was left less than impressed with Leon McKenzie after he demanded a deadline day move away from Carrow Road.

Coventry City's £1m move for the 28-year-old looked to have hit the rocks when Bristol City sold David Cotterill to Wigan Athletic rather than Norwich.

McKenzie, who had earlier handed in a transfer request, reiterated his desire to leave and Worthington said: 'We looked after him very well here and I wanted to keep him.

'But he said he didn't want to come back and play for us.

'I don't think that's the right way to treat the fans of a football club.'

Not at all. McKenzie was wrapped in cotton wool when his missus went public about their marital break-up. He had a few injuries last season, but most was that his head was screwed up by his marriage bust up and the alleged bust up between him and Damien Francis. McKenzie could have stayed with Norwich and had an influence as time progressed, but he spat his dummy out because he fell behing Lee Croft and Rob Eranshaw for a starting spot.
